Honda Accord vs Nissan Altima: Engine Power

As we mentioned at the top, both the Honda Accord and Nissan Altima know how to make your drives through town extra peppy. In fact, they both feature an available 2.0L turbocharged engine that delivers more than 200 horsepower. Take a look at these sedans' engines below:

Honda Accord

Nissan Altima

Standard Engine

1.5L Turbocharged I-4

2.5L I-4

192 horsepower

188 horsepower

Available Engine

2.0L Turbocharged I-4

2.0L Turbocharged I-4

252 horsepower

248 horsepower

While both cars generate a lot of power, we noticed that the Accord is a bit more energetic overall, even with the standard powertrain. As you can see above, the Altima comes standard with a 188-horsepower 2.5L engine, but the Accord delivers 192 horsepower with its standard 1.5L turbocharged engine.

What if we upgrade a level? Well, then both sedans get a 2.0L turbocharged I-4 engine, but the Honda generates 252 horsepower while the Nissan generates just 248 horsepower by comparison.

Driver-Assistive Technologies: Accord vs Altima

Next, let's look at the driver-assistive features that can add an extra layer of safety and convenience to every drive. Both the Honda Accord and Nissan Altima have available smart safety features that are designed to enhance driver awareness of the road ahead, like:

  • Lane keeping
  • Traffic sign recognition
  • Automatic high beams
  • Smart cruise control
  • Forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking

One major difference, however, is that the Accord comes standard with all these features, while the Altima requires a package upgrade for all the features except the last one listed. That's everything but the forward collision warning system with automatic emergency braking. So, your Nissan may not be as protective as the Honda right out of the gate.

Interior Dimensions

Finally, let's climb inside to have a look around. Whether you're taking the wheel of the Honda Accord or Nissan Altima, you'll have a cabin equipped to carry five passengers comfortably. Just how comfortably, however, is up for comparison. You can see the interior dimensions here:

Honda Accord

Nissan Altima

Passenger volume

105.6 cubic feet

100.8 cubic feet

Front headroom

39.5 inches

39.2 inches

Rear headroom

37.3 inches

36.9 inches

Rear legroom

40.4 inches

35.2 inches

Trunk volume

16.7 cubic feet

15.4 cubic feet

As you'll probably have noticed, the Accord provides an extra 4.8 cubic feet of passenger volume than the Altima. Since both sedans have roughly 39 inches of front-row headroom, most of the difference in passenger volume is in the second row.

With more rear-seat headroom and 5.2 inches more rear-seat legroom than the Nissan Altima, back-row passengers may be more comfortable inside the Honda Accord.
